Motherhouse Crisis Nursery is a state licensed nursery, which is one of only six such facilities in the state of Illinois. The purpose of the nursery is to provide a safe and nurturing place for children--newborn to age six--during times of family crisis and emergencies, and/or to prevent a crisis. Families may use the crisis nursery for respite care or to help stabilize their family situation. Services can be accessed 24-hours a day. Child Care workers have a knowledge base of early childhood and developmentally appropriate practices. Spanish interpretation available.

A family can self-refer, or a social worker or a human service agency may refer for services.

Program Fees:



English, Spanish interpretation available if needed.


They accept wards of the state, but DCFS must complete the paperwork. Each parent voluntarily accepts services for their children only, aged birth to 6 years. Length of stay can range anywhere from 24 hours to 72 hours (3 days).
