PADS of Elgin, Inc. provides a year-round overnight shelter for homeless persons and families. Shelter is provided between 7:00 pm and 7:00 am. Services on site include a small meal after arrival in the evening and a cold breakfast prior to morning departure. A locked storage area for medications is available as are showers and washer/dryers for guest use. Guests are responsible for providing and self-administrating medications. The Shelter is staffed with trained site coordinators, case managers and volunteers who are available to assist guests with basic needs and to connect them with additional services. Transportation: Pace buses deliver persons to nearby bus stops in the morning after check-out. A staff-driven van is available to drive guests to the downtown area at 7:00 am.

Intake Process:

Guests must participate in an interview with a caseworker and an intake form must be completed prior to any services being given. Positive ID is required. Eligible guests then are given a PADS ID specific to the services for which they qualify. Sign-in begins promptly at 7:00 pm and continues through 9:30pm. On-site Breathalyzer is used at sign-in. Guests may arrive no more than 15 minutes prior to sign-in.

Persons are required to have become homeless fromDundee Township, Elgin Township, and Hanover Township. The shelter accepts individuals and families. Must be 18 or older or be accompanied by legal guardian.
