Elgin Garden Club cultivates, designs, and maintains gardens at the Elgin Historical Society. The club also sends donations from fund raising activities of interest to the club, such as, restoring historical gardens damaged by Hurricane Katrina, outdoor education programs, local Habitat for Humanity houses, and sponsors speakers relating to gardening. The Club was founded in 1916. It meets at members' homes once a month April through December. The Club's mission is to cultivate gardening in its broadest sense, to beautify home grounds and to encourage community gardening. Native Plant Restoration program at Hawthorne Hills Nature Center has been implemented.
