Mental Health America of Illinois (MHAI) works to promote mental health, prevent mental illnesses, and improve care and treatment for persons suffering from mental and emotional disorders. Programs include extensive outreach, prevention and education to prevent suicide, screening teens for depression and educating children and adults about mental illness and mental health. MHAI advocates for public policy and legislation related to mental health. MAHI provides consultation and training for parents, professionals, students, and the public. The Information and Resource program assists consumers in their search for: support groups, obtaining services after discharge from a hospital, affordable housing, links to psychiatrists, affordable psychiatric medications, education on mental illness and resources on legal matters related to persons with mental illnesses.
