The Center for Disability and Elder Law (CDEL) is a non-profit legal services organization founded by the Chicago Bar Association in 1984. It provides free or low-cost civil legal services to low-income residents of Cook County who are seniors and/or those with permanent disabilities. Services include legal representation on a range of civil legal matters, the Senior Center Initiative (SCI) and the Senior Tax Opportunity Program (STOP). It also administers the Pro Se Adult Guardianship Help Desk in conjunction with the Circuit Court of Cook County.

Program Fees:

Free, with the exception of some adult guardianship proceedings.




Resident of Cook County; household income less or equal to 150% of the federal poverty guidelines; and either 60 years of age or living with a permanent disability.
